Clive Anstiss - Biography

Clive Anstiss was born in North London in 1944. His parents were comfortably off.

Father was a tea-taster of some skill and renown and had spent many years in India. The return to ‘normal’ English middle class life came as quite a shock to him after years in the colonies. He became an excellent gardener, taking frequent prizes at local and national rose shows. He was a RNRS judge and vice-president.

Mother was an accomplished artist, making extra money illustrating fashion catalogues and advertisements in the days before photographs of scrawny supermodels came into general use.

Clive has inherited his mother’s artistic flare and his father’s old-worldliness. His love of Pimms and gin and tonic, he insists, is all his own work.

Clive is an accomplished wood-worker and maker of ‘things’. He is a skilful cook, both on land and at sea and he has been known to mix a fine Singapore Sling.

Clive is an accomplished helmsman and yacht skipper. He has sailed in Ireland, Scotland, Mediterranean and around much of the east and south coast of England. His first recollections of sailing were on the Deben at the age of 4, and subsequently aboard uncle ‘Fluff’s’ yacht Kingfisher, from Waldringfield. He took ownership of Quintet in August, 2004.

Clive is retired and lives in the Midlands.
